Clyde in the Classroom

Our biggest primary education project is Clyde in the Classroom which uses the life history of a native Scottish species, the brown trout, to promote awareness of river ecology among young people across the River Clyde catchment. The project develops themes pioneered in Scotland by the Galloway Fisheries Trust and involves pupils being responsible for raising brown trout from eggs in a special classroom hatchery before releasing the fry into their local river. Since 2000, 64% of Primary Schools in the catchment have been involved, with 18,965 pupils passing through the project to date.

The project is carried out in partnership with Glasgow Science Centre, where the project is launched every January.
